Gordon Wisbach reflects on a Connecticut gathering—and the lasting value of showing up.
The Connecticut International Auto Show returned to the Mohegan Sun Expo Center on October 3–4, 2026, bringing another opportunity to explore the latest conversations and reconnect with Connecticut’s automotive community. For Gordon Wisbach, Founder and President of GW Marketing Services, the weekend offered an enjoyable combination of well-presented vehicles, familiar faces, and time spent with industry colleagues.
Gordon appreciated the dealer participation and the work of CARA’s Sara Fryxell and Ann Munley in bringing the event together. As a sponsor of the associated cocktail gathering, he also enjoyed supporting an occasion that gives automotive professionals a reason to step away from their desks and connect in person.
A Different Pace This Year
The cocktail gathering was smaller and quieter than last year’s, with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere. It was a social occasion rather than a conference: no formal presentations, major announcements, or groundbreaking industry discussions.
That distinction matters. Not every industry gathering delivers a headline—and it would be a stretch to describe this one as revealing a major market shift. Its value was more straightforward: maintaining relationships and spending time with people who know the dealership business firsthand.
For Gordon, that remains a worthwhile reason to attend.
Discretion Was Part of the Conversation
A few comments touched on interest in buying a dealership, but conversations did not reveal specific acquisition opportunities or potential sellers.
Gordon’s observation reminded everyone how carefully dealership owners approach sensitive business matters. Selling a store isn’t something an owner necessarily wants to discuss at a cocktail party, especially around competitors. Concerns about employees and business continuity make discretion understandable.
The takeaway is not that a quiet room signals an inactive market. Rather, Gordon sees these gatherings as a place to keep relationships strong—not a place to expect confidential transaction details to surface.
For owners considering their next chapter, that distinction reinforces the importance of a private, individual conversation.
Listening Without Forcing a Headline
Gordon also noticed that the evening largely avoided the geopolitical and economic issues dominating the news. He wondered whether attendees simply welcomed a break from the constant stream of negative headlines.
That was an impression, not a conclusion about what dealers are thinking. Still, the lighter atmosphere left room to enjoy the occasion on its own terms.
After more than 45 years in the automotive industry, Gordon’s approach remains grounded in listening and staying connected. Sometimes that produces a new business insight. Sometimes it simply strengthens a relationship. Both have a place in his work with dealership owners and buyers.
Keep the Conversation Going
Gordon’s reflection on this year’s event is simple: showing up has value, even without a big announcement to bring home.
He thanks the CARA team, participating dealers, fellow sponsors, and everyone who took time to connect. The vehicles were worth a look, the hospitality was excellent, and the relationships remain the reason to return.
